Last time we left off with our freshly dipped Orc. In today’s post I’m going to run you through the next few stages to see him on to completion.

Freshly Dipped. Mmmmm just like momma used to make!

Firstly, you need to be waiting 24 hours between dipping your mini and this next step. If it’s not been 24 hours, go away. You can bookmark the page and come back tomorrow (It’ll make the site stats looks better too lol)

Once the dip is fully dry, you’ll notice it’s still glossy, easy to fix, take you favourite anti shine varnish, I used Army Painter Anti Shine Varnish for this, and just give it a spray to take that gloss off it.

Sweet, your orc should now look like this:

The skin is still a little speckled at this proximity, but at normal viewing range you can no longer tell.

Next you want to be basing that mini, I’ve gone for a simple technique here, first pour some static grass into a small container (I used the lid of an aerosol).

Then prepare yourself a blob of PVA glue mixed with a drop of water to thin it down, carefully spread the glue mix onto the base of the mini, if you get it on his feet of the rim of the base, just wipe it away before the next stage.

Avoid Cat hair

Then dunk the entire mini’s base in your tub o’ grass, give it a swizz about, and then leave it for a minute.

When you’re ready simply take the mini out, give it a gentle tap a few times against the inside of your tub to remove any excess and set it down to dry. I’d probably leave it over night before I touched it again.

Stay put, I’ll see you in the morning

Once the PVA glue is dry you need to seal it as it won’t yet be able to withstand the rough and tumble of handling without shedding flock.

Take another small squirt of PVA glue and thin it down with water to the consistency of milk, then carefully dab this mix onto the flocked base of you mini. Be sure to be very gentle, don’t ‘brush’ it on, just ‘dab’! It should create a soupy swampy finish.

Relax, it’ll be fine once it’s dried – give it another 24 hours (now you should be understanding why part 2 took so long to be written!!)

‘Soup’er

Once this stage is dry, the flocked base will be nice and robust, ready to take on what ever you throw at it. I like to paint on a white line to represent the lines of the pitch. It’s up to you if you want to add this extra detail, but if you do, it’s just a simple case of taking a decent sized brush and painting on a neat line of thinned down white paint, I use Vallejo Game Colour Dead White.

The final step is to take a numbered decal, make your own if necessary, and apply it to the rim of the base. I made a popular tutorial on all things decal not so long ago, so feel free to pick up some tips there.

I like to put my decals on the back for Bloodbowl, since that’s the angle I’ll be seeing the most of whilst I’m playing
